This page shows the selected background (with text in various colors). In order to prevent repeating of the background to the right side of the page (partially) for larger monitor resolutions but less than 1600 pixels wide, instead of using the background attribute in the body the technique requires creating a table for the body with the table tag having a width attribute equal to the width of the background image and a background attribute set to the background image.

To prevent a partial image vertically down the page, use the technique mentioned for the right border style. In this style, create both a left and a right TD cell with width attribute equal to 10 and 35 respectively (and this will in effect create left and right margins) and place an empty/transparent gif image in the cells with a width attribute also equal to 10 and 35 respectively and height attribute equal to the height of the background image (or two times the height, etc., as necessary to ensure a full image for each portion of the background as the page is scrolled down to the bottom so that the bottom of the table is at the bottom of the last image in the background, if the page being created will be longer than a single image size in height. Then a middle TD cell is used with a width attribute set to 780 for the main “body portion” of the page.

On this page I have used a table which is three times the height of the background image to show an example of the technique. Because this style uses a width attribute for the table, you should also specify an align=left attribute in the table tag, and if the coloring of the background around the main image (the chessboard in this example) is other than white (on this page is a pale blue), you should also set a bgcolor attribute in the table tag with the color set to the same as the that used in the image. In this way all areas outside the table will be similar in coloring and should blend well into the image to create a virtual seamless appearance for the page. I have done that for this page. Finally, set the following attributes in the body tag as well: cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 and border=0.

You can download the background image by right clicking in the background area, and(1) for Internet Explorer selecting the “Save Background As” download command from the alternate menu;(2) for Netscape selecting the “View Background Image” and then when the page comes up with the background image displayed, right clicking again and clicking on “Save Page As” or instead selecting File from the browser Menu Bar, and then clicking on “Save Page As”.
